De Novo Executive Director Reflects on Recent Trip to Africa
In her own words, De Novo Executive Director Mojdeh Rohani describes her recent trip to Uganda.
I was recently in Uganda, where I had the honor of presenting with colleagues from Makerere University, located in Kampala, Uganda, and Boston University at the International Federation of Social Workers Africa Region Conference. Our workshop focused on innovative approaches in clinical social work education and practice in Africa.
Having worked with the African diaspora for the past 20 years, I along with colleagues discussed the need for decolonizing social work and proposed innovative methods for developing clinical curriculum and practice that are culturally appropriate and incorporate indigenous approaches.
It is always humbling to witness the great and impactful work of our colleagues in the Global South. I am ever energized and inspired by their positive attitude and the spirit with which they perform the most outstanding service despite insurmountable challenges, including working with limited resources in extremely dangerous conflict zones.
