Legal Program
De Novo provides high-quality, free civil legal assistance to low-income people living in Greater Boston, and to immigrants and asylum seekers statewide. We offer legal assistance in the areas of housing and homelessness prevention, family law/domestic violence, immigration law, and disability benefits.
De Novo offers free legal services to victims of crime regardless of their income.
Our legal work also includes training and education, collaboration with community partners, and work on public policy and reform issues that affect the lives of many people in our community.
De Novo clients are encouraged to take an active role in their legal cases. Our attorneys help clients make informed decisions. We believe that clients who learn about their legal rights gain confidence and learn to advocate for themselves.
Access to civil legal aid doesn’t just open doors to our justice system–it empowers people with low-incomes to take control of their lives and vastly increases the health and vitality of our communities. Our services promote safety and stability by offering our clients a pathway out of poverty and the opportunity to create a better future for themselves and their families.
