Attorney Courtney Libon Recognized as Unsung Hero

De Novo’s Housing and Disability Supervising Attorney Courtney Libon was among six people honored as an Unsung Hero by Somerville-Cambridge Elder Services (SCES) at the 2021 Serving Seniors ceremony on November 4, 2021.

Courtney received the Kahn Collaboration Award for her work to support the dignity and independence of low-income and vulnerable older adults by assisting them with a wide range of housing-related legal issues. The Kahn award recognizes community service professionals who are strong advocates for older people and for interagency collaboration on services for elders.

“Courtney provides an invaluable service to the most at-risk members of our community,” said SCES Adult Protective Services Director Norah Al-Wetaid, who presented the Kahn award. “Courtney alone has helped save countless elders’ housing through her diligence, hard work, dedication and desire to help people remain housed. Courtney is a strong advocate for tenant rights, knows the laws, and utilizes them to best assist her clients. Protective services cases are particularly challenging and high-risk, and eviction cases are no exception. With Courtney’s help, we have been able to better serve our clients and help the most at-risk elders in our community stay safely housed.”

De Novo has partnered with SCES to provide free legal assistance to low-income elders in Somerville and Cambridge who are facing eviction since 2019.
